Fire Extinguisher Servicing — AS 1851 Compliant

Six-monthly inspections, annual testing and five-yearly pressure tests for commercial, strata and industrial buildings across Western Sydney

Every portable fire extinguisher in a NSW building with a Fire Safety Schedule must be serviced under AS 1851-2012 — and since 13 February 2026, that standard is mandatory. If your extinguishers aren't being tested on the correct schedule by a qualified technician, your Annual Fire Safety Statement can't be signed off.

We provide complete fire extinguisher servicing across Western Sydney as part of our AS 1851 maintenance programs. Every service is carried out by qualified technicians under the oversight of an FPAS-accredited Fire Safety Assessor, and every result is documented for your AFSS records.

AS 1851 Servicing Schedule for Fire Extinguishers:

Six-Monthly Service

Every six months, each extinguisher must be checked for accessibility, anti-tamper device integrity, legible operating instructions, external damage, corrosion, correct pressure, and hose condition. The service tag must be updated with the date and technician details. This is the minimum legal frequency for routine inspection under AS 1851-2012 Section 10.

Annual Service

In addition to all six-monthly checks, the annual service includes verifying that each extinguisher is the correct type for the fire hazard in its location, confirming the installation meets AS 2444 requirements, and checking that no building alterations have blocked access or changed the risk profile.

Five-Yearly Service

Every five years, extinguishers must undergo a full discharge, internal examination, hydrostatic pressure test (in accordance with AS 2337.1), replacement of all seals and gaskets, recharge with fresh extinguishing agent, and a leak test. This is measured from the date of manufacture or last pressure test, whichever is later.

Types of extinguishers we service:

We service all portable and wheeled fire extinguisher types listed under AS 1851-2012 Section 10, including water (gas container and stored pressure), wet chemical, foam (gas container and stored pressure), powder (gas container and stored pressure), carbon dioxide, and vaporising liquid extinguishers.

What happens when an extinguisher fails?

If we find a defect during servicing, we issue a clear defect report with photos, a description of the issue, and recommended rectification. Common defects include expired pressure, corroded bodies, missing or damaged anti-tamper seals, blocked nozzles, illegible operating labels, and extinguishers that have been moved from their assigned locations.

We can supply and install replacement extinguishers on-site or arrange rectification through our maintenance programs. Once defects are cleared, we update your AFSS records accordingly.

Why fire extinguisher servicing matters for your AFSS:

Portable fire extinguishers are one of the most common Essential Fire Safety Measures on NSW Fire Safety Schedules. If your extinguishers aren't serviced to the frequencies specified in AS 1851-2012, your AFSS assessor cannot certify them as compliant — which means your Annual Fire Safety Statement cannot be issued.

We bundle fire extinguisher servicing with your AFSS inspection as part of our ongoing AS 1851 maintenance programs. This means one provider, one schedule, one set of records — and no gaps in your compliance documentation.

Areas we service:

We provide fire extinguisher servicing across Western Sydney and Greater Sydney including Parramatta, Blacktown, Liverpool, Penrith, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Inner West and surrounding areas.
